The Family Legacy will be a centre for children and their families. We are situated on the ground floor of the stunning new Legacy Hub and have over 200 metres square of indoor space and the same again in outdoor space.
The centre is designed to maximise children’s access to free flow play and is open plan throughout.
The open plan space has been furnished/room scaped by Community Playthings which allows children to have space to play and learn and space to rest, sleep and play. The resources within the nursery are open-ended allowing children to develop their imaginations and thinking through play. A home corner which can turn into a dental surgery, a mini-theatre that might become a supermarket – who knows it’s all in the mind of the player!
There is a baby sleep zone which is designed specifically to give our younger children a cosy environment for rest and care but where they can still see what’s happening in other parts of the nursery.
The centre also houses a family room and a nurture room. The family room gives parents a space to meet up talk to other parents or staff. Due to its glass wall design it is an ideal room for parents to be able to settle their child and observe them during their introduction to the nursery. The nurture room is a small cosy room next to the family room which will be used for those children needing a little more quiet time to rest or sleep away from the hubbub of the main areas.
The outdoor space is as important as the indoor space for our children and staff. Children will be able to access the outdoors play area at any time each day. Due to the bifold doors children are able to transition easily from the indoors to the outdoors.
Our outdoor area has been designed by architects and provides an interactive and encompassing landscape for active and exploratory play. Linking the indoors to the outdoors the play areas encourage the children to experience a variety of different activities, movements, textures, discoveries and sights. The outdoor play space holds planting and nature areas, vertical play areas such as hills and structures to climb. Sheltered spaces for outdoor activities no matter the weather, outdoor art spaces and spaces for water, sand and muddy play.
